“Tell it by the fireside or in a marketplace or in a movie, almost any story is almost certainly some kind of lie… What we professional liars hope to serve is truth.”
– Orson Welles, F for Fake
I’m a filmmaker and writer based in Sydney, and I love storytelling.
I love the snarling chorus of ‘Ballad of a Thin Man’, Irish wakes on The Wire, Hitchcock’s murders, Falstaff’s laughter, chicken dances on Arrested Development, western duels set to Ennio Morricone music, candle-lit skin in a Caravaggio, Cormac McCarthy’s war on punctuation, solving problems with portals and Homer (both the poet and the Simpson).
So this is a blog dedicated to my ideas, debates and reflections on whatever I’m obsessing about right now – film, literature, history, television, music, politics, video games and the odd canvas on a gallery wall.
Hope you read something interesting, and thanks for visiting!
